It’s easy to keep your teeth and gums in good health.  A simple routine of daily brushing and flossing, healthy eating habits, and regular dental visits can help prevent tooth decay (cavities) and periodontal (gum) disease.

Your teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria (called plaque).  Routinely brushing and flossing can help remove most of the harmful bacteria, but if plaque stays on the teeth, it can harden to form tartar, which is more difficult to remove.  Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are important to help prevent this from happening!

What to Expect with Teeth Cleaning

Having your teeth cleaned is important to your health, and should usually be done once every six months, depending on the condition of your gum tissues. A professional cleaning helps to review and reinforce correct brushing and flossing habits at home, and gives those areas that may need special attention professional care.  Routine cleanings ultimately help rid the mouth of destructive bacteria, ensuring a healthy and happy you!

When you have your teeth cleaned at Schultz Family Dental, Dr. Schultz and her team use state-of-the-art dental instruments to gently remove any plaque and tartar that has built up, both on the teeth and below the gum line.  A build-up of plaque around the teeth and under the gums can cause harmful problems—such as gingivitis, bad breath, bone loss, tooth decay, and even tooth loss—which is why routine cleanings are so important.  When Dr. Schultz examines your mouth, she will look for any potential concerns related to the teeth and gums, to ensure you’re at your best!

After the plaque and tartar has been removed, we will floss between your teeth, polish your teeth, and gives you a fluoride treatment.  Fluoride works as a protectant for your teeth against cavities by hardening the enamel, and we love those pearly whites!

Our team at Schultz Family Dental looks forward to partnering with you, to keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright!  Schedule an appointment today!
